CIMA · Regulated funds and their directors
CIMAAttesta for the Cayman Islands
Cayman regulated funds, the directors who sit on them and the managers who run them. Checks that used to be a yearly scramble are tested every day.
Confirm applicability during setup: which Act a fund is registered under, and which obligations the firm itself has chosen to apply, decide what is switched on.
Workflows in the current package
- AML programme, tested daily. CIMA's Rule on an Effective Compliance Programme is checked against each regulated fund every day: independence of the auditor, no more than two internal audit cycles in a row, the risk assessment and its triggers, training, and outsourced providers. A gap standing for 14 days is raised as a finding, and Compliance is reminded before a cycle falls due.
- Directors and DRLA. Each director records their Directors Registration and Licensing Act registration once. Attesta counts their covered entities, warns at 17 and again at 20 or more without a professional or corporate licence, warns of renewals, and dates the fund's yearly DRLA item from the earliest renewal on the board.
- Offering documents read, then checked. A PPM is read for the fund's auditor, legal advisers, year end and regime. The auditor is matched against CIMA's approved list; a change from the last confirmed PPM raises a 21-day filing for CIMA, and a person confirms each proposal.
- The calendar. CIMA's annual fee (15 January), the Registrar of Companies annual return and fee (31 January), audited accounts, the Fund Annual Return and CRS/FATCA items sit on one calendar, with the checklist read from what has been filed.
- Yearly declarations and fund policies. Directors declare their interests each year; valuation, conflicts, cybersecurity and AML policies are marked as evidence and go stale after two years unless reviewed.
- Every fund on one screen. Register checks list each Cayman fund with its standing, pre-filled from the last search.
Agree the scope before you start
- CIMA publishes no download or data feed for its register, so a registration check is recorded by a person after searching; Attesta lists what is due and keeps the result and date.
- Attesta does not file with CIMA or the Registrar. It tracks the deadline and keeps the filing reference and evidence.
- Private Funds Act funds are counted for director limits with a note to check whether they are covered; the approved-auditor list is a dated copy of CIMA's, and a stale list is flagged.
- Review periods, such as 30 days to file or 12 months for the risk assessment, are the firm's standard unless the Rule sets them; the product marks which is which.
See how the work comes together
Directors, fund administrators and Compliance work from the same record. A director sees their own fund checklist and registrations; Compliance sees every fund. Human decisions remain with the firm, and the audit trail records who confirmed what.
Reduce repeated administration
- Record a director's registration once and have it show across every fund they sit on.
- Let the checklist read the calendar, board meetings and documents instead of asking for a tick.
- Find the filing reference and supporting file when a reviewer asks, rather than collecting them again.
